This past weekend, I attended the Culinary Institute of America's ReThink Food conference. The Media Lab played a large role in organizing the content and bringing speakers for the three day event focused on nutritional values and the global food crisis.
In short - our planet is fucked up, thanks to us. There's a lot of controversy around how we can fix it. The world will have to worry about feeding 10 billion people by 2050. That's 2 billion more than right now. More mouths to feed means more farming, and more farming means more destruction of our planet which means climate change is happening faster and stronger and soon we're all dead! How interesting and terrifying is that? I mean, there are obviously many other factors in all of this - I simplified it but these are true facts.
Some of the takeaways I learned: Eat much less meat. And when you do consider poultry and fish over red meat. Eat more vegetables and fruits, and support your local small farms or grow it yourself! Cook at home, with your friends and family. Those are some very easy changes you can do RIGHT NOW to make a change and be healthier in the process.
